My latest single Alduarthan is a tribute to an Oak tree friend I came to know, and is an ambient free flowing Druid medicine song that speaks of the connection of all things. The music intends to impart the feeling of union with all beings and for us to not see the things that separate us all, but the things that unite . That was the trees wishes in the inspiration of the music. Despite many times talking to the tree and asking for a vision around which I could weave, a meaning if you like almost as if I was hoping for something else – the consistent feedback was unity. Then I got to look at why I was hoping for something better than unity, what’s that all about ? I laughed at my own ego and then set to work.
As a musician and creator you can often spend so much time trying to make forms, and details. You can spend countless hours lavishing over format, presentation, technical brilliance (or lack of) and then there is the diamond of audience. If you want to share and make money, how will this be received and heard ? Even if you are someone that is focused and confident in your artistic vision and identity, these themes will crop up. A pressure many experience as writers block, or a creative brick wall that meets the resistances in your being.
So with this piece of music, I finally wanted to say goodbye to these creative fears and resistances and completely allow myself to create a medicinal soundscape that encompassed the intentions of unity that I felt to communicate. Even when you have spent years making music just how you feel, there are always more layers to unfold and transform. The beautiful craft of life and its artistry is a daily, moment to moment work is it not ? I find that beautiful not a chore or a insurmountable mission, so with Alduarthan for the first time it genuinely felt that I had let go sufficiently.
For the recording sessions, I would sit in the forest and manifest through that emotional sensation and reality of unity, that creates a landscape embodied by the physicality of the forest around me and allow whatever sounds came through. At no point during the initial stages of recording did I have anything for reference other than the initial very first track- so each sound would be played in this mind map if you like, where a loose memory of the other parts would be deposited. I liked this almost tangible reference point, that was sufficiently intangible and loose to not stifle the free flow. All the sounds were recorded on my old iPhone 5 with the inbuilt mic and a dodgy pair of Chinese made earbuds :). I wanted something raw and blemished almost, indeed for me I wanted to give people an experience of what a sound healing druid sat in a forest with an iPhone trying to make music might sound like.
I really enjoyed there being no drums or bass, or set pattern, I wasn’t interested in worrying about time maps and the rules that rhythms employ. That in of itself was so freeing, being classically trained prior to playing in bands and writing my own music, its hard to walk away from the low end and drum sounds and pulses, and I love rhythm so much, so the movements were as the wind in the trees. Sweeping and cascading and swelling. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable with your own journey of creation for me is a strength, and to watch the beauty revealed by the spaciousness that beckons with it, is a delight and a further source of inspiration.
So I hope you enjoy the music and feel that same or similar sense of unity as I did creating it. I am currently working on a druid medicine album that involves inter species composition and collaboration, incorporating sound directly recorded from trees and plants that picks up where this song ends if you like…

Finding new ways in which we can spontaneously create using the power of our imaginations with visualisations for our own self development and balance is simpler than we often allow ourselves to believe. Like any practice it requires a willingness to learn and develop through trial and error – going beyond inner fears and doubts into the strength and gentle flowing certainty.
This sound healing/ guided meditation piece is an attempt to give an example of how we can do this. You don’t need training or special skills to be playful and explore what you can envisage. Comparisons are unnecessary and lack appeal when we feel the beauty of your own methodology. Make and design your own inner worlds, and visions and access and unlock the potential of your own ability to forge new pathways to your essence. To those that feel they cant do this or do not know how we do it constantly. Our thoughts and feelings are often accompanied by visions and scenes, and again may often include many additional senses like smell, taste and audio too. So change the imagery of our thoughts, changes the talk, the sounds the music of our being and realities. Alter one alter all. Adjusting the view changes the sound and vice versa.
This is an experimental sound healing piece, centered around the use of the orbital frequencies of 10 planetary bodies of our solar system in unison – in one sound. Across two main octaves, the piece employs a variety of Pythagorean intervals that weave throughout.
The sacred ten. Ten sounds in unity from our galaxy. So the idea for this piece is to assist and manifest healing potential, self-transformation and balance. To promote healthy alignment of the infinite universe that is us. The symbol of the cauldron in this instance – to be viewed perhaps as a receptacle of the beautiful ingredients we can stir into the mix. To fuse and create new harmony. The cauldron of transformation and joy. The playful way we can choose the nutrients we stir into the food of creation and existence. Ten joys from the heart outwards and inwards with no sense of separation.
So you can perhaps visualise yourself seated at the bench of becoming – and using the sound and being with the sound, and the inseparable way that you sound with that – imagine that you stir into the cauldron of intention those harmonious and beneficial ingredients using your intuition, and love. Know through the open heart and its loving kindness as you stir, that these beautiful intentions are already manifesting and taking place. Visualise how that feels, its wondrous shape and taste – an inner smile of abundance and clarity. A gentle nod to the view from the veranda of your soul.
Visualise yourself in unity with no sense of separation. Fully able and articulate to manifest and bring about the changes in your physical life, without grasping and trying to grab and fostering expectations, then wearing a sense of failure if they fail to originate. Let go of that into the totality of your being, and allow through the myriad of appreciation and acceptance that all moves in the beautiful dance. Relax into that unity and harvest its potential and bliss into the very present- the right now.
Enjoy the blessings of unity that you can create for yourself.
Mind’s nature is indivisible emptiness and clarity, Inexpressible and indestructible, like space. In seeing it, there is no separate one who sees; There is but a single, all-encompassing sphere. Even looker and looking are one and the same. This view of seeing all at once is unsurpassed, A centreless, limitless, exceptional experience.
In this fruition in which what has to be done has been done, There’s no seeing at all, and any wish to see, Any deep longing to discover the view, Is naturally destroyed from its very depths. To arrive at such contentment and evenness Is to be touched by brave Mañjuśrī’s beneficent light.
Mipham wrote this on the 12th day of the seventh month, in the year of the Fire Rat (1876). Maṅgalam.

Improvised polyphonic recitation of the Druid chant of the Awen from the forest stream of Dearbhanu in Devon UK. A simple raw honest field recording of the chant from beside a local forest stream in a cave. A way through using sacred syllables laden with intention but also freed from the constraints of grasping and striving – searching and finding. Allowing the self-arising clarity and inspirations to flow unhindered by the mind and heart. A relinquishing of attachment to retrieving the lost and perhaps more a remembering an active participation to that which is already there and abundant.
While inspiration is perhaps never continuous and more prone to a tidal coming and going like the breath of life – there is a wellspring from which we can always drink and discover new beautiful ways to learn from it. Any word can be used as a catalyst with sound and an intention set, but words which have been used and uttered by others many times with truth in their heart have a flavour that endures and continues the spiral in all directions.
Buddha Vairocana is the primordial, fundamental Buddha of the Universe – The Cosmic Buddha, and He is seen as the embodiment of the Buddhist concept of Emptiness (Sunyata). The name ”Vairocana” translates as “embodiment of light” or “luminous” in ancient Sanskrit, while in Japanese, ”Dainichi” translates as “great sun.” He is the central deity among the five primordial Buddhas or the Tathagatas. Each of the five primordial Buddhas first identifies a specific human failing and then supports us in transforming it into a positive characteristic, bringing about the spiritual evolution required for enlightenment. More specifically, He represents the conversion of ignorance into wisdom.
